Generic RN

In order to be eligible to apply to the EVC Nursing program all applicants must:

1. Complete the following biology prerequisites (or equivalent with lab component), with a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or above:

 The above Biology courses must have an in-person laboratory component in order to satisfy the RN prerequisite requirements. Biology courses with online lecture and in-person laboratory are acceptable. But fully-online Biology coursework is not acceptable, unless the following exception is met:

Due to the impact of COVID-19 and the sudden transition to a virtual campus, the EVC Nursing program will accept prerequisite science courses taken fully online during from Spring 2020 to Summer 2022.

And please note the EVC Nursing program will not accept international prerequisite coursework. All science prerequisites must be completed at regionally accredited institutions. 

2. Complete the below English requirement (or equivalent) with a grade of  'C' or better:

*Accepted starting Fall 2025

Or 

*Accepted if taken prior to Fall 2025

If you upload transcripts showing conferral of a Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited college or university, you will be credited for the English C1000 requirement.

Policy on repeated prerequisite coursework: applicants who have repeated a prerequisite course and have received multiple letter grades for the course (or its equivalents) will only have the most recently-awarded grade considered. For example, if an applicant took Human Anatomy in Spring 2020 and received a ‘C’ grade and then took Human Anatomy again in Fall 2022 and received an ‘A’ grade, EVC Nursing will consider the applicant as having a ‘A’ grade for Human Anatomy. (This new policy replaces the old repeated prerequisite coursework policy, which stated that EVC Nursing would average the two grades unless the transcript indicated grade forgiveness.)

Applicants to the EVC Nursing program must upload unofficial copies of their transcripts showing completion of prerequisite coursework to the Nursing application and send official transcripts (electronic or paper) to the Nursing Department. 

 

3. Pass the Test for Essential Academic Skills [TEAS] Version 7 exam with a score of 62% or higher. 

EVC Nursing will only accept the first passing score on the TEAS.

Applicants to the EVC Nursing program will need to upload unofficial TEAS score reports on the Nursing application during the application window. Students admitted to the EVC Nursing program will be asked to submit an official TEAS transcript after they are conditionally accepted. For more information, see the "Transcript Submission" tab below. 

Before you apply to the EVC Nursing program, you need to verify that the coursework that you have completed will satisfy our course prerequisite requirements. If your coursework is not verified for prerequisite equivalency, you will not be credited for completing the prerequisite requirements. How to verify the equivalency of your coursework is outlined below.

If you took the courses specified above at EVC or SJCC your courses satisfy the prerequisite requirement. No further action is required. 

A score of '3' in high school Advanced Placement [AP] coursework is acceptable for the below courses.

Please note that no other AP coursework will satisfy Nursing prerequisite requirements or will earn multicriteria points. 

If you took your prerequisite coursework at any other California community college or California university, check the Course Equivalency Chart for your college and the courses you took. If your college is listed on the chart and the courses that you took are identified as equivalents of the Nursing prerequisites then your coursework satisfies the prerequisite requirements and no further action is required. 

If you completed prerequisite coursework at a university or at a community college not found on the Course Equivalency Chart then you will need to:

(1) Review and complete a Course Substitution Petition. You will need to fill out one petition for each course that you need verified for equivalency. 

(2) Locate syllabi from the courses that need to be verified for equivalency. Make sure to get the syllabus from the exact course you took, in the same term that you took it.  Attach the syllabus along with an unofficial transcript(s) showing completion of the courses in question.

(3) Submit the course substitution petition(s) with the attached syllabi and unofficial transcripts to the appropriate EVC Academic Division. Review the Course Substitution Petition Submission Guide to direct you on where to submit course substitution petitions.

After submitting your course substitution petitions to the appropriate department, you will receive an email with either an approved or declined Course Substitution Petition. If you receive an approved Course Substitution petition, make sure to upload it along with your transcripts when you apply to the Nursing Program. If you do not upload your approved course substitution petition(s) on your application, you will not receive credit for the coursework!

Please make sure that you have your prerequisite course equivalencies verified well before the application deadline, as the process is often takes a few weeks or more. If your petition is taking a long time to get approved, you may check in with the parties that you submitted the petition to. The Nursing department can not assist you with petitions sent to other departments. 

Please note that all of the above equivalency determination policy applies not only to course prerequisites but also to courses that you can gain multicriteria points for on your application. For General Psychology, Developmental Psychology, Oral Communications and Statistics, check the Course Equivalency chart. 

For Pharmacology and Pathophysiology coursework, if you one of or both the courses at EVC, they will be accepted. If you took one of or both of them at another college you will need to fill out a Course Substitution Petition for each course.

Approved course substitutions do not guarantee admission into the nursing program, only for admission consideration.

Note one legacy equivalency: If you received an course equivalency approval on the TES database, please indicate on your application that your course was approved on TES. Please note that although we will accept courses approved on TES, TES is no longer used for approving course-to-course equivalency.

The Multicriteria Scoring Rubric is used to evaluate applicants to the EVC Nursing programs. Applicants are selected on the basis of their Multicriteria scores. Before applying, consult the Multicritera Scoring Rubric to determine what areas you are eligible for earning points for on your application and upload the required documentation on your application during the application window.

ONLY COMPLETED APPLICATIONS WILL BE CONSIDERED.  A COMPLETED APPLICATION INCLUDES THE SUPPORTING DOCUMENTS INDICATED BELOW.

The below courses comprise the EVC Nursing program curriculum. These are not prerequisite courses; they are the courses that admitted applicants complete while attending the EVC Nursing program. 

Course Supportive of the Major (required for graduation and licensure)

Core Requirements: All completed with a grade ‘C’ or better

• Transcripts are only accepted during the application window.
• Transcripts must be send to the Nursing Department, not to Admissions and Records.

Transcript submission requirements

• Unofficial academic transcripts: all applicants must upload copies of their unofficial transcripts to the online application.
• Unofficial ATI TEAS report: all applicants must upload a copy of your unofficial ATI TEAS report to the online application. (You can generate an unofficial report on the ATI website.)
• Official academic transcripts: all applicants must send official transcripts to the EVC Nursing office for all coursework except for coursework completed at either Evergreen Valley College or San Jose City College. You do not need to submit official transcripts for coursework at those two colleges; your unofficial EVC and/or SJCC transcripts will suffice.  Official transcripts are required for coursework from all other colleges.
  
  • YOU MUST SUBMIT YOUR OFFICIAL TRANSCRIPTS DURING THE APPLICATION WINDOW. Any transcripts submitted outside of this application window will not be processed and can lead to an incomplete application.
  • You must submit ALL transcripts from all colleges where Human Anatomy, Human Physiology, General Microbiology and English 1A were taken. This includes repeated coursework.
  • If you are claiming points on the multicriteria scoring rubric for completion of Psychology, Developmental Psychology, Oral Communications, Math (Statistics), Pharmacology or Pathophysiology, you need to submit transcripts that show the completion of that coursework as well. Otherwise, you will not be credited for completion of those courses.
  • Options for sending official transcripts
    • E-transcripts: Official e-transcripts must be sent to evcnursing@evc.edu - DO NOT SEND TRANSCRIPTS TO ADMISSIONS & RECORDS, we will not receive them. In order for e-transcripts to count as official, they must be directly from the college or third-party transcript service (e.g. Parchment) to the evcnursing@evc.edu email address. If you request an official transcript to your own email address and then send email the Nursing office a copy, your transcripts will not count as official transcripts. 
    • Paper drop off: You may drop off official paper transcripts to the EVC Nursing Office, Sequoia building (room, S-207) during business hours. Paper transcripts must be unopened in order to count as official transcripts. 
    • Mail: must be received during the application window. Send to:

  • Please note that EVC Nursing is not accountable for any mailed transcripts or e-transcripts that failed to be successfully submitted to the nursing office on-time (ex. transcripts lost in mail or transcripts failed to be submitted by your institution on-time).
  • EVC Nursing is not liable for any applicants' transcripts that were not received during the application deadline. The applicant is fully responsible of submitting official transcripts on-time.
